Evie-K

Named after our daughter and my partner Kim, “Evie-K” is the vessel used for reef fishing. Evie-K is a 7.4m, fibreglass, Noosa-cat design planing hulled catamaran powered by twin 150hp 4 stroke outboards. Capable of speeds around 32kts.

I modified this boat myself specifically to suit the style of fishing that I do. The two most important things I wanted for this boat was to ensure safety of myself and crew, and absolute premium quality of the product.

The only way to do this meant I had to make the fibreglass eskies onboard that are used for our salt ice brines, and also make the fibreglass eskies which hold the fish after they have chilled in the brines.

Once I was happy that I could keep the product in premium condition, I fitted new state of the art electronics, communication, and new twin outboards. Being up to 90 nautical miles from the nearest port means help isn’t coming fast, so everything had to be safe, and reliable. Particularly important in a cyclone prone area.

Putting these things first meant comforts come last, and by then there was very little room for comfort. Fortunately there was room for 2 bunks and air conditioning in the cabin to get a few hours rest on those scorching Nth Qld summer days or nights if needed.

For our bait fishing, we use a 5m fibreglass centre console powered by a 60hp 4 stroke outboard.

I also modified this boat specifically to target certain fish, and to keep those fish in premium condition. There’s no room for crew comfort on this one, we just get out there, catch the fish and get home safely!
